A nationwide agricultural competition for female first-time farmers has picked two hundred Lagos State women to compete. The program is part of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu's Renewed Hope Initiative.

The winner of "Every Home a Garden" would receive N20 million.

At a seminar for invited guests, the governor's wife, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, stated that the state will provide resources to guarantee that the winner is from Lagos.

"We are readying ourselves like a boy scout, and we know we're going to win," she declared. In order to facilitate coordination, the number of participants has been restricted to 200, with individuals ranging in age from five to seventy.

The goal of this competition is to encourage home farming during a critical period when food prices are skyrocketing. Her Excellency, Senator Tinubu, thinks that encouraging home farming will provide Nigerians with much-needed respite.

"The 36-state total winner will be revealed in December, marking the conclusion of the competition."

"Lagos State has taken steps to ensure due process is followed in line with the criteria issued by the Office of the First Lady of Nigeria," stated Mrs. Sanwo-Olu, following the competition's announcement.

She said that the lecture was an important first step toward making sure Lagos follows the rules and wins the competition.

1,052 applications were received, and 200 individuals were chosen. Of these, 36 are from Badagry, 38 are from Ikorodu, 17 are from Lagos Island, and 15 are from Epe. There are 94 from Ikeja.

Households may grow some of the food they needed without necessarily moving to agricultural communities, according to Agric Commissioner Ms. Abisola Olusanya.

"It is crucial that you begin to develop something, no matter how small, for yourself, your kids, and your family. It is our obligation to grow something for which you will ultimately be proud of yourself," she stated.

More individuals who would have been eligible to participate, according to Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso, but were excluded because they did not have the necessary paperwork in the state database, specifically their Lagos State Residents Registration number.

He emphasized that registration on the database was essential for security, planning, and policy decision-making for those wishing to reside in Lagos.
