KX-TreeShears Energy Wood Grapples Bring Efficiency and Ease to Wood Handling
June 12, 2025, 9:19 am
KX-TreeShears’ energy wood grapples make wood handling more efficient and effortless. The versatile grapple handles a variety of tasks, such as cutting small trees and shrubs, stacking, and loading. Its high-quality construction ensures smooth operation even in demanding conditions. KX-TreeShears aims to create practical, high-performing, and user-friendly equipment, and the KX energy wood grapples were developed with these principles in mind.
KX tree shears are suitable for a wide range of applications, such as clearing field edges, thinning young forests, or cleaning up storm damage. They make forest management tasks easier, especially when speed and precision are required. The grapple’s versatility makes it a smart investment for both landowners and professional contractors.
The tree shear reduces the need for manual labor, speeding up work processes. In repetitive tasks, time savings accumulate throughout the workday, directly improving productivity. Reducing manual labor also enhances workplace well-being by significantly lowering the risk of injury.
How the Tree Shear Works
Tree shears are used in various machines, such as excavators and forwarders. The grapple opens and closes using hydraulic cylinders. After cutting a tree, it can be moved to a stacking point. Trees can be cut to length in a bundle on the ground, which speeds up operations.
High-quality tree shears have tall jaws, ensuring a firm grip on the wood. The range of motion is wide, and the jaw tips are the widest part when open, minimizing damage to surrounding trees and facilitating work in tight spaces.
Energy grapples vary in design and purpose. The choice of grapple typically depends on the type of wood being handled, the machine used, and the specific requirements of the task.
Modular Design Makes Maintenance Easy
KX Tree Shears’ energy wood grapples feature a unique modular design that makes maintenance exceptionally easy. If a part is damaged, the entire grapple does not need to be replaced—only the affected component. Additionally, the grapple has a detachable blade, making it suitable for loading as well.
The modular design makes the grapples lightweight yet highly durable. They are designed for professional use, where smooth performance is required even in heavy-duty applications. For professionals, long-lasting and easily maintained equipment is essential. The grapple’s versatility makes it a cost-effective and durable investment.
KX Products Developed for Demanding Conditions
KX-TreeShears’ products are designed and manufactured in Northern Europe, in Finland, where forestry is a significant industry. In a country where most of the land is covered by forests and seasons vary, equipment must be durable and reliable. KX tree shears are developed for these challenging, variable conditions.
The KX-TreeShears story began 20 years ago when Kimmo Tossavainen, who worked in machine shops and the paper industry, came up with the idea for a tree shear to better utilize wood for energy. The first tree shear worked well but had some shortcomings, so development continued.
In 2011, Tossavainen introduced a second-generation tree shear with a dual-cylinder design that was lighter and more efficient. This grapple proved successful but was further improved based on customer feedback.
A few years later, Tossavainen developed the idea for a modular energy wood grapple that would be more durable and lighter. The goal was to create a grapple that causes less damage to surround, standing trees and is more efficient. The modular design proved to be an effective solution, resulting in a lightweight, versatile, and user-friendly grapple that can be used for both felling and loading.
New Speed Valve Elevates Efficiency
A new accessory, the KX-Speed Valve, takes the performance of energy wood grapples to the next level. The valve significantly speeds up the opening and closing of the jaws, streamlining work and making it more rhythmic. It also greatly improves the grapple’s controllability, making it more responsive and intuitive, adding comfort and precision to operations.
Thanks to its compact size (60 x 120 x 150 mm), the valve is easy to install. It fits within the tree shear frame, requiring no extensive structural modifications.
This small accessory offers significant benefits, making the grapple more responsive, faster, and even more efficient. It maximizes the machine’s utility and enhances work efficiency.
Dealers in Europe and the United States
KX-TreeShears’ energy wood grapples and accessories are sold in the United States and several European countries through an extensive dealer network. In areas without an official dealer, products can be ordered directly from the manufacturer.
